The Professional Photo, Film, TV and Personal Stylist Course really suited me because I enjoyed fashion and styling. Seeing the result of a person I have styled is amazing. My tutor was very helpful and I learned so much from her. I was shocked at how much this course changed the way I look at colours, styles and body shapes. It feels so good when you can match the kind of styles and personalities that go together so much better!
Since completing the course I have been developing my small business, Look by MKS, which I run from home in Brisbane.
My business has three prongs:
First, I sell makeup products online, both domestically and internationally. I am an authorised stockist for Jane Iredale cruelty-free products and I also sell other brands.
Secondly, I provide mobile makeup and styling services to the greater Brisbane area. I have a completely portable set of products and equipment so that I can work in any home setting. For example, I might do private makeup and styling for those attending a special event, like a high school formal or a wedding. COVID has put a dent in Brisbane’s events market but I am hoping we will get back to normal with the lifting of restrictions.
Thirdly, I give live makeup and styling advice online through YouTube and Facebook. I have nearly 2,000 subscribers/followers and usually get an audience of around 1,000 for each live session. This developed as a result of the COVID restrictions. My study with the College helped me put this into operation.
I advertise my Australian College of Professional Styling certificate on my website and on YouTube, Facebook and Instagram. I feel that it helps promote me as a professional.
With the easing of COVID restrictions, my hope is that events will become more normal and my home service business will expand in 2021.
